I crochet quite tight with 5mm hook. The squares should be around 10×10 cm, max 12×12 cm but not larger! If your squares become larger, take a 4mm hook instead!
WEEK 15: Monday 9 May 2016
Colours: 7 colours you have used in the blanket
OR 1 new ball of yarn in the colour of your choice.
We are going to crochet the border.
Since this is my first CAL design, I hadn’t forseen the differences in gauge that people are having. Some people have yarn left, some others barely none.
That’s why I recommend to everyone who thinks they will not make it with the yarn left, to use a new ball of yarn with 1 colour of your choice (preferable a colour you used in the blanket).
The blanket is quite hysterical as it is with all the rainbow colours in all the granny’s, so don’t be afraid it won’t look awesome if you use only one colour for the border ;).
Use the same colour for 7 rows OR change colour at the beginning of every row.
Lay the blanket in such a way that you can start crocheting in the corner of a random square. This should NOT be the corner of the blanket. We are going to crochet the same pattern the entire round, excerpt for the corners of the blanket.
Round 1) Crochet with the first colour of your choice (colour used in example is claret, (colour 1)) single crochet in the back loop of the stitches.
When you arrive at the corner of the first square, crochet 1 single crochet in the chain 2 area and continue in the corner of the next square with again 1 single crochet in chain 2 area, and single crochet in back loops.
When you arrive at the corner of the blanket, crochet in chain 2 area: 2 single crochet, 2 chains, 2 single crochet. Continue with single crochet in back loops. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 2) Change colour if you want (colour in example is spice, (colour4)) and single crochets in every stitch until corner of the blanket. In chain 2 area of corner: 1 single crochet, 2 chains, 1 single crochet. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 3) Change colour if you want (colour in example is saffron (colour 5)) and repeat round 2. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 4) Change colour if you want (colour in example is bright green (colour 7)). Crochet 1 single crochet, 2 chains, 1 single crochet in the same stitch. This forms a kind of ‘v’shape. Skip 2 stitches and continue until corner of the blanket.
Make sure you can skip a few stitches after the last ‘v’ before the corner (so that the v is not too close to the corner). Crochet in the chains area in the corner: 2 single crochet, 2 chains, 2 single crochet. Skip 2 stitches and continue with the v-stitches until next corner. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 5) Change colour if you want (colour in example is teal (colour 9)). Crochet 3 single crochet in the chain 2 area at the top of the ‘v’stitch of round 4. Crochet 1 single crochet in between the v’s. Repeat until corner of the blanket.
In the corner: crochet 2 single crochet, 2 chains, 2 single crochet in chain 2 area of previous round. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 6) Change colour if you want (colour in example is aster (colour 11)). Make sure you use a ball yarn of which you have the most for this round.
Crochet 3 single crochet in the backloop of the 3 single crochets of previous round (in top of the v’s). Crochet a double crochet in the first of the 2 skipped stitches in round 4. This falls over the single crochet in between the v’s, so you skip that stitch. Continue with 3 single crochet in back loop of the 3 single crochet from previous round etc.
In corner: double crochet in round 3, 2 single crochet in back loops, 1 single crochet, 1 chain, 1 single crochet in chain 2 area, double crochet in round 3 and continue with rest of round. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.
Round 7) Change colour if you want (colour in example is grape (colour 14)). Crochet single crochets in every stitch until corner. Crochet in chain 1 area: 2 single crochet, 2 chains, 2 single crochet. At the end of the round, crochet with slip stitch in first stitch of the round.

Colours: 13, 14& 1
We are going to crochet 10 squares in 2 colour variations again.

hi i was wondering if you could help me please i want to do the rainbow blanket CAL but only have sidar hayfield dk and im not sure which colours to use as stylecraft dk is the suggested any help would be much appreciated as this will be my first big project and CAL so i do not want to mess it up before i start

I love this pattern! I have completed the squares and I am currently hoping them…I do have one question…what color yarn do you use to join the rows( not sure if I am overlooking that?) Do you just use the best one between the two bored colors? I am going to do the boarder you did! Can’t wait to get it done❤️Thanks for sharing!! Krista

The yarncolour that you used for the last round of the squares of the row you crocheted is the colour you use to join the next round with. Although some people have used black as an extra round added to each square and also to sew them together with. Hope this helps!
